Wynot Expos are off to a slow start on new season
WYNOT — Tabor broke open a 5-5 tie with a late flurry to pull away from the Wynot Expos, 15-5, in seven innings in the opening week of the South Central League’s amateur baseball calendar.
Tabor broke the game open with eight runs in the sixth inning to pull away.
“We played average baseball for the first few innings,” Expos coach Lee Heimes said. “It is early in the season. We are starting to get our arms and bodies into baseball shape. We are trying to be smart with our pitch count for pitchers early in the season. We also need to cut down on our walks with the pitchers.
“Our defense has been okay so far this season.”
Lee Heimes said the Expos (0-2) are getting runners on base, but the key knocks are few and far between.
“We also need to cut down on our strikeouts,” Coach Heimes said. “Landon Wieseler has hit the ball for extra-base hits and drove some runs in. He played some club baseball at college and has a few more games under his belt.”
Dane Whitmire threw four innings but earned the no decision.
Earlier that week, the Expos opened the campaign with a 7-3 loss against the Yankton Lakers in Wynot.
The first five batters for Wynot all recorded a hit.
“We had a couple good opportunities with runners on base and they were left there,” Lee Heimes said.
Jackson Sudbeck pitched four innings, Landon Wieseler pitched 4.2 innings and Brett Wiebelhaus pitched for one out.
