First day of the State Tourney play is in the books
KEARNEY — Cedar Catholic’s Riley Kuehn didn’t exactly get the first round that he wanted Tuesday during the Class C State Golf meet here.
Kuehn fired an 85 — 14 over par — to finish the first day of competition locked in a 20th place tie with several other golfers.
Cazden Christensen came into the clubhouse with a 90, putting him in 36th place on the day.
Jay Steffen was Cedar’s next finisher, carding a 92 to finish in 45th, while Carsen Becker had a 95 and Mack Kuehn finished the 18-hole event with a 99.
After the first day of competition, Columbus Scotus leads the race for the team title.
Scotus was trailed closely by David City Aquinas and Bishop Neumann. Cedar Catholic was in eighth place after Day 1.
In the Class D State Tourney in North Platte, North Platte St. Pat’s leads the team race, while Hartington-Newcastle finished the first day with an 11th place finish.
Turner Dendinger turned in the best Wildcat finish on the day, carding an 89.
Reece Morten fired a 97 for the team’s second-best score of the day. Dayton Sudbeck had a 107, while Riley Sudbeck finished with a 109 and Carson Jones shot a 111.
