Local runners compete in Crofton

CROFTON — The Hartington-Newcastle cross country teams ran in the Crofton Invitational Sept. 26 at Lakeview Golf Course north of here.

The Lady Wildcats finished fourth, while the Wildcats came in fifth. Crofton won the girls’ division with 34 points, Wayne was second with 40, South Sioux was third with 58 and HNS came in fourth with 63.

Claire Rolfes was the top Lady Wildcat finisher coming in fourth with a time of 22-minutes, 34.75-seconds. Carmen Buschkamp also brought home some hardware coming in 10th in 23:09.79.

Callie Fischer of Lutheran High Northeast was the girls champion covering the distance in 21:34.37, Claire Guthmiller of Bon Homme was second in 22:13.52 and Sophia Wortmann of Crofton was third in 22:14.86.

Isabel Rolfes was 26th, Jaden Opfer placed 42nd and Ryell Haug was right on her heels in 43rd.

The ‘Cats competed in the UNK Invitational Monday and will compete in the first-ever Greater Northeast Activities Conference Meet Oct. 10.
