Heine leads Wynot with four medals at HNS Invite

HARTINGTON — The Wynot boys and girls track-and-field teams competed at the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational on April 4 a little short-handed.

The meet was scheduled for April 2 at the Hartington Community Complex, but inclement weather forced the meet to be postponed a couple of days, which coincided with the State FFA Convention.

The athletes who did compete had some success.

Pender won the girls’ portion of the invitational with 94 points, with Cedar Catholic second with 87. The Lady Blue Devils were ninth with 22 points.

Ponca won the boys’ division with 133 points, 10 points ahead of Cedar Catholic. The Blue Devils were sixth with 27 points.

Dylan Heine had a great day on the track and in the field, bringing home four medals for his efforts.

Heine won the high jump after clearing the bar at 6 feet, placed second in the triple jump with best of 41-01.50, a fourth in the long jump and a fifth-place showing in the 800-meter run.

“It’s fun to be on top and win,” Heine said. “My main goal for this season is to break the school record in the triple jump and just try to get better each meet.”

The Wynot triple jump record is, ironically, the exact distance he jumped in this meet.

In addition to Heine’s performances, the 1,600-meter relay team consisting of Cooper Oligmueller, Nixen Heimes, Korbin Guenther and Braylon Hans circled the track four times in 4:12.60 to place fifth. Hans also grabbed a medal in the 300 hurdles, in which he placed sixth. Oligmueller just missed a medal, finishing seventh in the 1,600, and Lane Heimes was seventh in the high jump. The Lady Blue Devils were paced by Tiara and Myrah Sudbeck. Tiara was third in the 100 meters while Myrah finished fourth. Myrah was also fourth in the 200 and Tiara was third in the long jump. Tiara and Myrah joined Kiera Heimes and Annika Heimes to place fifth in the 1,600-meter relay. Both Wynot teams were set to compete in the Cedar Catholic Invitational on April 9 and then return to Hartington for another Hartington-Newcastle meet on April 15.
