Expos earn win over Menno
WYNOT — Wynot (5-6) got back on the winning track last Thursday with a resounding, 13-3 win over South Central League rivals Menno.
The Expos used 10 hits and capitalized on a number of Menno defensive errors to carry the day, according to coach Lee Heimes.
Jaelen Wieseler earned the win on the mound.
“He worked ahead of the hitters and our defense made plays,” Lee Heimes said. “Landon Wieseler came in relief and attacked the hitters as well. We need to continue to improve on cutting down our strikeouts offensively and grind out at bats.
“Defensively we need to continue to improve on consistency and situational plays. Our pitchers need to continue to attack hitters and try not to go so deep in counts so that it runs their pitch count up.”
Earlier, the Expos fell 6-3 to Akron, Iowa in a non-league game.
Bradley Howe started for the Expos and pitched well for five innings despite being early in his amateur baseball career.
“We played okay defense, but we had two situations where we should’ve made plays but gave up two unearned runs,” Heimes said.
