Wildcat golfers are third at Osmond meet
WAUSA — The Hartington-Newcastle golf team has been very busy as of late.
The team competed at O’Neill Thursday then at Osmond on Saturday.
Saturday’s outing at the Rolling Hills Country turned out to be a good day for the Wildcats.
“Saturday was another step forward for us,” HNS Coach Ken Kneifl said. “This is our lowest score since 2015. We had three players medal in Reece Morten (4th), Turner Dendinger (10th), and Dayton Sudbeck (12th).”
This marked the first time that Turner Dendinger and Dayton Sudbeck had earned varisty medals.
They are both learning a lot about the game, Kneifl said.
“We need to remember that Turner is only a sophomore who lost his freshman season due to COVID-19 and Dayton is a freshman,” he said.
In addition, Riley Sudbeck played several stretches really well, Kneifl said.
“For a young man who just began to play golf this spring he plays very well. Once he gets the nuances of the game figured out he’ll be well on his way to be a consistent medal winner,” he said.

Reece Morten recorded his best outing of the season at Thursday’s O’Neill Invitational.
“It was great to see Reece Morten finally break through and medal,” Coach Ken Kneifl said. “He has been so close so often. His eighth place finish overall is a very positive step. It was also fun to see Carson Jones make a major step forward as he had his best day as a golfer.”
Each of the other four HNS golfers also did a lot of good things, Kneifl said.
“Coach Johnson and myself sometimes have to remind each other that Carson, Turner, Dayton, and Riley are in their first season of playing high school golf. They are also seeing many of these courses for the first time,” Kneifl said.
Next Meets: Saturday, May 1 at Pierce and Monday, May 3 at Creighton
