Cedar Catholic JV golf team claims conference title

HARTINGTON — Jay Steffen led the Cedar Catholic JV golf team to a first-place finish last week in the MidStates Conference JV Tournament.

Cedar shot a 387 to easily outdistance second-place O’Neill.

Cedar golfers showed how evenly matched they are as they finished fifth through eighth in the 18-hole tournament.

The Cedar JV golfers held their own in a varsity match Saturday at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Wausa.

The JV team earned runnerup honors in a meet that featured varsity teams from 12 area schools.

Ponca won the team title, firing a 368 to best the rest of the competition. Cedar finished in second with a 385, while Hartington-Newcastle was third, shooting a 388.

Isaac Kuehn led the Cedar golfers with an 89 for a fifthplace finish. Harrison Kuehn finished with a 97 for 15th place and Sam Kuehn was next with a 99 for 19th place.

Weston Heine and Charlie Dendinger rounded out the scoring, firing a 100 and 103 respectively.
