Vernon LeRoy Hilkemann

ATLANTIC, Iowa — Vernon LeRoy Hilkemann, 84, died Sept. 26, 2022, in Atlantic, Iowa.

Vernon was born March 24, 1938, in Randolph, to Erwin and Elsie (Walmsey) Hilkemann. He married Mary Ellen Schultze Oct. 30, 1960. Vernon was a farmer in the Randolph area and worked for Michael Foods. He enjoyed caring for animals, attending auctions and sharing his treasures and finds, whether it be animals or items. His last years he enjoyed salvaging.

Vernon was a member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, Omaha, and enjoyed family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen, Feb. 21, 2022; and granddaughter, Sara Ingram.

Vernon is survived by daughter, Lori Ingram, Lincoln; son, Jason (Debra) Hilkemann, Norfolk; four grandchildren, Samantha Adams, David Ingram, Ross (Sydney) Hilkemann and Paige (Nick) Lutjens; great-grandchildren, Michael, Ashton, Kaitlyn, Miles and Kendall; sister, Judy (Daryl) McFadden, and brother, Jim Hilkemann, both of Randolph.

Visitation was at noon Sunday, followed by funeral service, all at Cutler O’Neill Funeral Meyer Woodring Funeral Home, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, Omaha.
