Dorothy Murray HARTINGTON — Dorothy C. Murray, 94, Hartington, died Sept. 28, 2022, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.

Mass of Christian Burial was Oct. 3 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Services were also livestreamed on www.facebook.com/WintzRay/live.

Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Brad Peitz, Mike Peitz, Nick Peitz, Pat Peitz, Matt Hoesing, Mitch Hoesing, Alex Roberts, Cliff Murray, Dillon Murray and Andrew Murray.

Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Sheri Bell, Laura Petersen, Melanie Woods, Melissa Hoesing, Danielle Christman, Burgandy Zschetzsche and Lindsey Roberts.

Visitation and a Vigil service were Sunday at church, and continued Monday, one hour prior to services.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Dorothy Christina was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Crofton, to Jacob and Regina (McNally) Guenther. She grew up in the Crofton and St. James Nebraska areas. Dorothy began working in her early years at the Ben Franklin Store (Dime Store) prior to her marriage. She married LaVern (Vern) Bernard Murray Nov. 21, 1950, in Hartington. She and Vern raised 10 children in Hartington - Bev, Bob, Jerry “Badger”, Anne, Jeff, John, Chuck, Shane, Christie and Paul. After her children were grown, Dorothy worked at the Holy Trinity School cafeteria for over 24 years, eventually becoming the food service manager.

Dorothy was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and volunteered in many ways over the years. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers, and an active participant at the Hartington Senior Center and the Hillcrest Care Center. Dorothy raised a garden and canned fruits and vegetables. In later years, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and taking daily walks around town to see friends and neighbors.

Dorothy is survived by eight children, Beverly (Darrell) Peitz, Hartington; Robert Murray, Norfolk; Anne Hoesing, Jackson; Jeffery (Jane) Murray, Dayton, Ohio; Charles (Lynette) Murray, Fullerton; Shane Murray, Raleigh, N.C.; Christie Murray, Wayne; Paul Murray, St. Paul, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Guenther, Yankton, S.D.; a sister, Alice Schumacher, Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Regina Guenther; husband, Vern, Feb. 2, 1981, at the age of 65; two sons, Gerald and John Murray; a granddaughter; son-in-law, Howard Hoesing; four brothers, Armand, Harold, Marvin and Jim Guenther; sisters, Eleanor (Dale) Bergman and Verna (Al) Pinkelman; and many other family and friends.
