Marcella Hochstein
WAYNE — Marcella Hochstein, 96, Wayne, died Dec. 12, 2018 at Providence Medical Center, Wayne.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Jan. 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wayne, with a 7 p.m. Vigil service.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Jan. 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Jeff Mollner and Fr. James F. McCluskey, and Deacon Gary French and Deacon Pat Gross officiating
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Wayne.
Pallbearers will be Justin Hochstein, Ian Hochstein, John Brogie, Joseph Brogie, Kevin Clark, Jeremy Graves, Jason Zulkosky and Kevin Addison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marcella’s grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne.
Marcella Frances ( Lange ) Hochstein was born Sept. 25, 1922, near Hoskins to Anthony and Helen ( McNally ) Lange. She was baptized at St. Frances Catholic Church, Randolph.
She graduated from Holy Trinity High School, Hartington, in 1941. After high school, she worked at the Office of Price Administration in Hartington during WWII. Marcella married John Hochstein Aug. 4, 1943, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Following John’s military service, the couple farmed near Hartington, then moved to Laurel in 1948. Marcella was a 4-H leader in Cedar County for several years. The family moved to Crawford for a time, and then to Wayne in 1962, when John started working for Peoples Natural Gas Company.
Marcella was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wayne, and St. Mary’s Guild. After John’s death in 2003, Marcella moved to The Oaks (Brookdale) in Wayne where she enjoyed her friends and the lovely staff.
Marcella is survived by her children, Roger ( Gail ) Hochstein, Wayne; Ron (Linda) Hochstein, Richmond, Va.; Patrick (Brenda) Hochstein, Huntsville, Ala.; and Joan Marie Rempfer, Stephens City, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Amy Clark (Kevin) Richmond, Va.; Justin (Kelly) Hochstein, Richmond, Va.; Tonja (Jeremy) Graves, Monument Colo.; Amanda (Jason) Zulkosky, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Nicole (Kevin) Addison, Lincoln; Ian (Micaela) Hochstein, Seattle, Wash.; John (Ashley ) Brogie, Nevada, Iowa; Abbey (Zach) Hall, Huntsville, Ala.; and Joe Brogie, Burbank Calif.;
14 great-grandchildren; Ella and Lauren Graves, Cole and Avery Zulkosky, Nolan and Logan Addison, Sophie and Adeline Clark, Clara and Tess Hochstein, Wesley and Samuel Hall, and Hazel and Eleanor Brogie; four siblings, Loreta Gubbels, Randolph; Ronald Lange, Randolph; Marjorie Schock, Blue Earth, Minn.; and Delwyn Lange, Randolph; and lots and lots of wonderful nieces and nephews, who meant the world to her.
Marcella is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, in 2003; and son-in-law, Mark Rempfer, in 2014.
