Louann Bonertz
YANKTON, S.D.— Louann Bonertz, 86, Yankton, S.D.,died Dec. 8, 2018, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.
Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Dec. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Larry Regynski officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at 12:45 p.m., Friday afternoon. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Onsite Crematory, Yankton, is assisting with the service details.
Louann was born Sept. 26, 1932, on a farm near Menominee, to Herman and Lavina (Hoebelheinrich) Bonertz. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1950. She spent her working years as a secretary for the CEO of F&I Steel Corporation in Denver, Colo.; Inside Sales Representative for Armco Steel Corporation, Omaha; and as a secretary in the University of Nebraska System, Omaha. She retired to Yankton, S.D., in 1994.
She became a member of the Benedictine Oblates Oct. 28, 1962, associated with the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Canon City, Colo. In her retirement years. she continued as a Benedictine Oblate with the Sacred Heart Monastery. Yankton.
She loved the House of Mary Shrine, Yankton, and her volunteer work as a Eucharistic minister at Yankton nursing homes and Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. She really enjoyed the time she spent in the Colorado Rockies where she skied and hiked in her younger years.
She is survived by six nephews, Gary (Marci) Pederson, Yankton, S.D.; Stewart Pederson, Littleton, Colo.; Kevin Pederson,Volin, S.D.; Robert Anderson, Pecos, N.M.; Mark (Mary) Lowe, Omaha; Jeff Lowe, Castle Rock, Colo.; two nieces, Jan (Larry) Long, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lynn Quick, Dallas, Ga.; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
Louann was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lavina Bonertz; three sisters, Jeanette Anderson, Geraldine Pederson and Carol Lowe; three brothers-in-law, Medvin Anderson, Kenneth G. Pederson and Donald Lowe; and one niece, Cathy (Anderson) Logue.
In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family suggests donations in Louann’s memory to the House of Mary Shrine or Avera Sister James Nursing Home, both of Yankton, S.D., or a charity of your choice.
