Leann was born March 5, 1930, in St. Helena, to Joseph and Dorothy Burbach. Leann’s mother died when she was 4 years old, so she lived with her Grandmother Ann Wieseler in St. Helena throughout childhood.
Leann married Hubert Uhing May 7, 1951, at St. Helena Catholic Church, and they celebrated 67 years of married life. They made their home on a farm three miles west of Hartington until retirement. Hubert and Leann were blessed with seven children, Robert, Dorothy, Ronald, Lawrence, Harold, Richard and Russell.
Throughout married life Leann was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America. She faithfully attended church Sunday, worshiped at a Monday holy hour for decades, and supported many parish activities with volunteer work. Leann was an accomplished seamstress who made several quilts for each of her children and sewed a treasured quilt for each grandchild. She appreciated her good life as a skilled farm wife and loving mother. Leann always cherished spending time with family members.
Leann enjoyed the conversation that accompanied playing card games of all kinds. She played cards with a group of friends, which started in elementary school and continued for over 60 years. Holidays and social occasions with family usually included a competitive game. Leann enjoyed growing extensive gardens and cooking abundant meals for a large family. She often shared favorite recipes in published cookbooks with the area church ladies and neighbors. Nobody left her house feeling hungry or unloved.
Family survivors include her husband, Hubert; and children, Robert and Marlene (Domier) Uhing, Yankton, S.D.; Daryl and Dorothy (Uhing) Guenther, Crofton; Ronald Uhing, Cleveland Ohio; Lawrence and Betsy (Ross) Uhing, Grand Island; Richard and Mary Kay (Becker) Uhing, Norfolk; Russell and Kim (Buhl) Uhing, Lincoln; her brothers Frederick Burbach, Orlando Fla.; Thomas Burbach, Storm Lake, Iowa; and cousin, Richard Burbach, Minneapolis, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
