Lady Trojans finish third at conference meet
HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic shot a team score of 417 to take third place in the team race at the meet held in Hartington Sept. 29.
Pierce won the title with a 390, 19 shots ahead of runner up O’Neill.
Maci Schommer responded from her last outing where she shot her highest round of the year by trimming 17 strokes off her score and grabbing the silver medal after carding a 91.
“Maci played really well at the conference meet,” Cedar Catholic coach Rob Bengston said. “She is setting herself up to have a good finish to the season - gaining confidence each round.”
Kaylin Gaughenbaugh of O’Neill was the conference champion with a 89.
“The Mid State Conference has some very good golf teams and players,” Bengston said. “To get third is a great accomplishment and many of these teams will be in our district.”
Mya Dickes and Kate Lammers were knocking on the door for a medal finishing 17th and 19th respectively after firing rounds of 106 and 108.
Maddie Dendinger and Kristine Becker made it five Lady Trojans in the top 25 with a 112 which put Dendinger in 23rd, Becker was just behind her in 25th with a 114.
Cedar Catholic was set for the district tournament on Oct. 4 back at Wayne Country Club.
The top three teams and top 10 individuals will qualify for next week’s state meet at Elks Country Club in Columbus Oct. 10-11.
