Lady Bears set new school standard
LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls’ golf team completed a rather busy and successful week last week, taking runner-up honors in the LCC Invitational on Sept. 28 after placing third in the Wayne Invitational on Sept. 26.
Wayne High School won both events, out shooting the Lady Bears 336-383 in the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge invite here at Cedarview Country Club and defeating Columbus Scotus by six shots at Wayne Country Club and the Lady Bears by 21 strokes.
Joslyn Johnson of Wayne took medalist honors here in Laurel after firing a 76. Delani Knust ofWest Holt was second just one stroke back.
Skylar Swanson was fifth for the Lady Bears after carding a 91, Clara Brummels completed a hot week on the course with a 96 which put her seventh and teammate Harper Bruning used a 97 to place ninth on her home course.
Holly Patefield was 13th for LCC with a 99 while Danica Gould was 22nd with a 111.
The Lady Bear JV squad wound up sixth in the meet paced by Kennedy Hall with a 21st-place showing after shooting a 106. Lily Fox, Alyza Leonard, Abby Lipp and Mavis Jonas were 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th respectively for the JV squad.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge had enough players for a second JV team, which placed eighth with a 599.
Stella Kock (124, 34th), Tanya Miranda (128, 37th), Ryleigh Specht (172, 42nd) andAva Christensen (175, 43rd) competed for the JV2 team.
At the Wayne Invitational on Sept. 26, Brummels carried the banner for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, shooting a 91 which put her in sixth place.
“It was very cool to shoot that low,” the Lady Bear senior said. “I think I really need to work more on my short game, I had a few three-putts today, so I need to get better on the greens.”
Her goals for the season are quite clear.
“We want to get our entire team to state,” Brummels said. “Last year we missed it by six strokes so we don’t want that to happen again. It would be very cool to get all of us out there to state.”
Knust and Johnson reversed roles at theWayne Invitational with the Lady Husky taking first place with a 79, Johnson carded an 81.
Bruning finished in the medal using a 96 to place 12th while Patefield and Swanson finished just outside the medals placing 16th and 17th respectively after each shot a 99.
Gould shot a 106 to come in 29th to finish out the LCC scoring on the day.
Next up for the Lady Bears is the C-3 District Meet back at Wayne Country Club on Oct. 8.
Sixteen teams are slated to compete with the top 3 teams advancing to the Class C State Golf Championships to be held Oct. 14-15 at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte. The top 10 individuals will also grab a ticket for the state meet.
