Lady Bears put together impressive 3-1 tny. run

WAKEFIELD - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears volleyball team went 3-1 in the Wakefield Invitational held here on Sept. 12 and 14 to improve to 9-2 on the season.

The Lady Bears opened the tournament with a 2-0 sweep of Lutheran High Northeast then swept the hosts in the second round.

LCC followed with a 2-1 win over Tekamah-Herman and a sweep over Cedar Catholic.

In the finals, Pierce defeated the Lady Bears 2520 and 25-20 to take the title.

Pierce pulled away late in each set to win the match.

Rena Rasmussen paced the Lady Bears attack with 10 kills, Tali Erwin added five and Carlie Kvols tipped up 16 set assists.

Bailey Graf and Lainey Schutte had 13 and 12 quality passes respectively.

Rasmussen had eight digs, Kaida Eriksen recorded seven while Erwin and Kvols each had six.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge took care of Cedar Catholic 25-20 and 25-18 to arrive in the finals.

Erwin, Eriksen and Rasmussen each had six winners in the match, Schutte and Erwin had an ace serve each.

Kvols had 16 assists; Rasmussen recorded eight digs; Eriksen had seven; Erwin, Graf and Kvols each had six digs dug up 34 attempted winners.

It took three sets to win the match with Tekamah- Herman as the Lady Bears ran away in the first set 25-12 before the Lady Tigers responded to take set two 26-24. LCC righted the ship in the deciding set and won by a fairly comfortable 25-16 final score.

Kvols did some quality ball handling and tipped up 21 set assists, Schutte added three, Rasmussen a couple and Tyler Recob, Erwin, Eriksen and Graf each contributed one assist.

Rasmussen again led the attack with 10 winners, Eriksen and Kvols each had six and Erwin slammed five.

The Lady Bears had six ace serves in the match led by Rasmussen with three while Eriksen, Erwin and Schutte had 12,11 and 10 quality passes respectively.

Rasmussen recorded 13 digs to complete a double- double, Erwin and Eriksen each had 10 digs.

Identical sets of 25-19 and 25-19 sent the Lady Bears past Wakefield in the tournament’s second round.

Rasmussen and Erwin each had a couple of ace serves, Rasmussen added 10 kills and Kvols had 20 assists.

Erwin had eight digs; Eriksen had eight good passes, Rasmussen and Schutte each had seven.

In the opening round of pool play, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge took care of Lutheran High Northeast 25-13 and 25-17.

Rasmussen had nine winners, Erwin eight and Eriksen six to pace the Lady Bear offense. Kvols had 21 set assists making her total for the tournament 95 assists.

LCC was set to take on Tri County Northeast on the road Sept. 17 and will travel to Plainview Sept 19 in Greater Northeast Activities Conference action.
