Dog Jog could be headed here
HARTINGTON - Hartington residents may be able to take in a special event here this summer.
Rocki Alt asked the Hartington City Council if they would have any issues with Cedar County Veterinary Services putting on a Dog and Jog event through the streets of Hartington.
Alt, who has been in Hartington working with a NatGeo film crew putting together a TV show on veterinarians Ben and Erin Schroeder, said events like this have been very successful in other communities.
The idea, she said, is to have a 5K type race for dogs and their owners. She would like the course to begin at the Historic Hartington Hotel then loop around the city before ending at the hotel.
Any funds raised would be donated to a worthy cause, such as flood relief, Alt said. Alt said they have a couple of dates in mind, such as June 14 or 15, but nothing firm has been decided as of yet.
City Clerk Natalie Schacher said any route that passes over the state highway must rst be approved by the state
They will submit a route so they can have the state approve it
“We fully support what you are doing but we’ve got some legal things we’ve got to do rst,” Mayor Mark Becker told Alt.
The matter was then tabled and will be put on the agenda for the next City Council meeting.
