Concord youth named Player of the Year
— Mike Renning Cedar County News CONCORD — Each year, thousands of Nebraska’s youths participate in American Legion Baseball across the state.
One young man is then chosen as the Nebraska Player of the Year and his name is forwarded to be considered for the George W. Rulon National Player of the Year.
This year, the Nebraska American Legion selected Dillon Olson of Concord as the 2022 Nebraska American Legion Baseball Player-of-the-Year. Olson is the son of Mark and Tiffany Olson.
Olson said he feels honored to be selected.
He plays for the Pender Post 55 Legion Senior Team.
Olson was involved in band, National Honor Society, Student Council, speech, and choir, as well as art, science, and Spanish clubs.
He participated in baseball, basketball, cross country, and track and frequented going to State in these activities.
He has volunteered for various youth activities, helped students with studies, and is known for helping the people of his community. There is no doubt that he understands the impact he can make by supporting his community. His positive outlook and leadership skills demonstrate the Code of Conduct that is sought in Legion Baseball.
'I have learned most of my best traits from my parents,' Olson said. 'Growing up, they taught me manners, hard work, responsibility and honesty.'
Olson is attending the University of South Dakota in Vermillion working towards a degree in kinesiology.
'USD has been a new experience these past few days,' Olson said. 'I am learning to get out of my comfort zone and meet new people.'
