Bears put together solid week until Wynot bounces them from L&C Tny.
WALTHILL — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was bounced from the winner’s bracket in the quarterfinals of the Lewis Division of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament here Jan. 29 by Wynot, 70-50, after having a busy and fairly successful week prior to the tournament.
Earlier in the week, the Bears defeated Osmond/Randolph 63-59 and Wakefield 57-53 before dropping a 72-52 decision to Walthill on Jan. 26 in Laurel.
Against the Blujays on Jan. 26, Walthill came out of the gate on fire and posted a 29-8 lead at the end of the opening eight minutes.
They added to the lead in the second frame, outscoring Laurel-Concord- Coleridge 18-12 to head to the locker room with the Bears trailing, 47-20.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge came alive a bit in the final eight minutes, outscoring the Blujays 20-11, but the damage was already done.
“We weren’t ready to go tonight and they were,” LCC coach Todd Erwin said. “They did a lot of things right and we didn’t, it’s plain and simple.”
Kolby Hansen and Kayton Hall paced the Bears with 10 points each.
Gibson Roberts added seven, Tyler Olson and Caleb Erwin each chipped in six.
The Wakefield Trojans came to town on Jan. 25 and staked an early lead over the Bears, ending the first quarter with a 13-9 advantage.
LCC righted the ship in the second frame and ended the half with a narrow lead, 28-26.
The Bears added a bucket to the lead in the third and the team played even the rest of the way with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in front by the 57-53 final score.
Olson had the hot hand in the contest hitting for 18 points on six, 3-pointers.
Hansen and Roberts added 10 points each while Kvols had eight.
It took an extra period for the Bears to dispose of the Hawks after the score was tied 56-56 at the end of regulation.
LCC outscored Osmond/Randolph 7-3 in the extra session to swipe the win.
The Bears came from behind in the game, trailing 47-37 heading into the final quarter.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge outscored the Hawks 19-9 to even the score and force the overtime.
Roberts poured in 30 points in the contest to lead all scorers.
Hansen added 10, Olson tacked on nine and Kvols had eight.
The loss to Wynot in the Lewis Division Tournament will send the Bears for a consolation contest with Wausa on Feb. 1 in the first game of the evening at LCC. Wakefield and Bloomfield will play in the second game.
