Josephine Dolores Viergutz was born March 7, 1926, at Randolph, to Joseph and Gwendolyn (Anderson) Kunzman. She graduated from Randolph St. Frances High School and attended a business school in Omaha. She married Vance Viergutz May 25, 1946. Together they published the Coleridge (Nebraska) Blade for 13 years and the Randolph (Nebraska) Times for 11 years before the couple moved to Lincoln in 1971. There, she was a proofreader for Joe Christensen Printing, a law review printing company. They moved to Gothenburg, where her husband and son, Greg, became co-publishers of the Gothenburg Times. She became involved in the newspaper upon her husband’s death in 1982 before retiring in 1985. Dolores was active in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Gothenburg and also served on the Gothenburg Library Board. She enjoyed gardening, reading (especially newspapers, thoroughly) and becoming a friend with whomever she met. She was a life-long Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, attending games regularly from the 1940s until her health prevented it. One of the great joys of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vance, Feb. 23, 1982; parents; and siblings, Duane, Annette, Joseph and Mary. Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Charles) Sukup, Navarre, Fla.; son, Greg (Kathi) Viergutz, Lincoln; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria (Gene) Packer, McClouth, Kan.; and brother, Jim (Carolyn) Kunzman, Tampa, Fla.
