Wynot rolls together big win over L-D
WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils improved their season record to 3-2 Friday as they dominated Lyons Decatur Northeast for their homecoming win.
Wynot scored early and often as they rolled to the 54-8 victory.
Wynot got their ground game going in this one and were led by Lane Heimes and Andrew Haberman with three touchdowns each.
Eyan Tuttle had Lyon Decatur’s lone touchdown catch.
Nixson Heimes had an interception and Kingston Hans had a fumble recovery to lead the Blue Devils defense.
Gavin Hardeman recorded eight tackles and had an interception to lead the Cougars defensive unit.
The Devils got off to a quick start as they took the opening kickoff and marched 66 yards to paydirt. Lane Heimes rushed for a trio of first downs. Andrew Haberman capped the drive catching a tipped pass in the endzone from six-yards away for the score. Haberman added the PAT as well as Wynot led early 8-0.
Wynot’s defense held and their offense moved the ball on the ground. A couple of first down runs by Nixson Heimes got the ball deep into Cougars territory. Lane Heimes would power in from the 3 yard line for the Blue Devils second score. Heimes added the PAT run as Wynot lead 16-0 at the end of the opening period.
The Devil defense held to open the second and forced a punt. Lane Heimes took over as he rushed five straight — three of them for first downs. Heimes dove in from the four yard-line to finish the drive. Devin Brummer scrambled for the PAT and Wynot was rolling 24-0.
The Cougars got on the board late in the half. After a Gavin Hardeman interception of an errant Blue Devils pass, Lyons Decatur was in business at their own 25.
Lyons Decatur’s Eyan Tuttle got open behind the Devil defense to grab the 25-yard touchdown pass.
Landon Cooper ran in the PAT as Lyons Decatur was on the scoreboard trailing 24-8.
Wynot answered as Lane Heimes broke around the right side and raced 45 yards to pay dirt. The PAT pass was not good but Wynot was in control at halftime leading 30-8.
Wynot’s defense continued to shine. After a fumble recovery at the 31 yard line by Parker Schmidt, Wynot’s Andrew Haberman took the option pitch around the right side for the 28 yard touchdown run. Alec Sudbeck caught the PAT as Wynots lead had ballooned to 38-8.
Wynot’s defensive unit continued to control the tempo. A defensive stop at the Lyons Decatur 3 yard line and a interception by Nixson Heimes would stop a pair of Cougar drives. Wynot went into the final period leading 38-8.
Wynot would put up a pair of scores in the final quarter.
Wynot travels to Walthill Friday.
