LCC golfers earn a pair of runner-up finishes
LAUREL — The LCC girls golf team hosted Wayne and Cedar Catholic for a triangular last Tuesday.
The Lady Bears carded a 193 to finish behind first-place Wayne, which shot a 174 on the day. Cedar Catholic took third with a 215.
The LCC JV girls were next with a 237. They were followed by the LCC JV2 team, which carded a 258.
Clara Brummels paced the local golfers with a 43 to finish in third place. Holly Patefield’s 47 was good enough for a fifth-place finish.
Skylar Swanson was happy both to compete on her home course, and to be able to play against her cousin, Wayne golfer Jocelyn Johnson. Swanson, who fired a 51 on the day, said she would have liked to have performed better on her home course, though.
“I need to work on staying out of the trees,” she said. “My drives kind of screwed me up in the last four holes.”
The LCC girls were in action again Friday, travelling down the road to compete in the Wayne Invitational. The girls earned runner-up honors at Wayne, as well, firing a 400 on the day.
Brummels once again paced the Lady Bears, she carded a 92 to finish in fifth. Skylar Swanson’s 101 was good enough for a ninth-place finish.
