Cedar girls settle for a split in season-opening triangular

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic split its opening two matches of the 2024 season with a commanding 25-10, 25-16 win over Randolph and a close loss to Homer, albeit by sweep, 25-20 and 25-21 here at the Werner Activities Center.

In the match with the Lady Knights, Cedar Catholic battled hard and throughout before falling in the two-set sweep.

Lauren Bernecker paced the Lady Trojan attack with six kills, Melayna McGregor tacked on five winners.

McGregor also tipped up nine set assists to get the offense going and Lyndsey Hamilton led the team with 11 assists Bernecker also had seven successful passes.

Brynn Bernecker and Addison Walter each recorded three stuffs at the net and Bailey Hochstein had 12 digs to set the tone for the Cedar Catholic defense.

In the win over the Lady Cardinals, McGregor just missed a double-double with eight kills and 10 assists. Lauren Bernecker added five winners and had five ace serves to lead the attack.

McKinlee Lammers had eight digs and seven solid passes.

The Lady Trojans were set to stay at home with a best-of-five-sets match against Lutheran High Northeast on Sept. 3 before heading to Columbus for the Scotus Central Catholic Invitational on Sept. 7.

Cedar Catholic hosts Crofton on Sept. 10 in Mid State Conference regular season action.
