Wynot Expos pick up second straight win
MENNO - The Wynot Expos won their second consecutive game for the first time this season with a 2-1 pitcher’s duel played here on July 18.
Wynot broke a seven-inning scoreless tie with two runs in the eighth.
Landon Wieseler hurled seven scoreless inning before giving way to Jackson Sudbeck who picked up the win.
Wieseler allowed just one hit in his seven innings of work, walked three Mad Frogs and struck out eight.
Sudbeck allowed three hits and gave up the single Menno run while striking out two.
Scott Morrison opened the Wynot eighth with a single past the third baseman.
Ryan Heimes worked a walk pushing Morrison to second base.
David Schenk stepped to the plate and laid down a bunt, which was mishandled by the Mad Frog third baseman which scored Morrison and left runners at the corners with no outs.
Nathan Wieseler singled into left field which chased Heimes home to make it 2-0.
After a fly out to center field, Sudbeck was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Landon Wieseler rifled a line drive towards second base which was caught and got his brother picked off at second to end the threat.
After Sudbeck got two outs in the Menno half of the eighth.
He gave up a single but promptly picked the Mad Frog base runner off of first base to move on the ninth.
The Expos got their first three batters on base to open the ninth with a couple of walks and a bunt single but a strikeout and a pair of line drive outs ended the threat.
The Mad Frogs opened the bottom of the final inning with a double into center field.
Sudbeck got the next batter to ground out but a 2-2 fastball wound up in right field to plate Menno’s run.
Sudbeck struck out the final two batters and the Expos came back to Nebraska with their sixth win of the season.
The expos are scheduled to open play in the District 6B Tournament July 25 through Aug. 3 in Lesterville.
Wynot Expos defeat Menno Mad Frogs 2-1.
