Short-handed Dolphins take second in West Point

WEST POINT — After swimming away from the competition in its first two meets of the summer campaign, the Hartington Dolphins swim team found itself a little short-handed at its meet in West Point.

“We were down several of our swimmers with a large number of boys gone for baseball,” Dolphins coach Anna Reifenrath said. “But still had some great performances.”

Piper and Hadley Dendinger had another great meet Hadley Dendinger placed first in four events; ages 11-12 individual medley, 11-12 50 fly, 11-12 50 backstroke and the 11-12 50 breaststroke.

Piper Dendinger also swam her way to four first place finishes; the 8&u 25 individual medley, the 8&u 25 butterfly, the 8&u 25 backstroke and the 8&u 25 breaststroke.

Landry Heimes had a stellar performance in the breaststroke, the 13-year-old swam up in the 15-18 division and won the event in 43.26 seconds and broke her own team record in the event she had just set last week.

Rowan Becker and Emerson O’Brien finished first and second respectively in the 9-10 25 backstroke.

The 8&u Medley Relay team of Chesney Peitz, Harlow Haselhorst, Piper Dendinger and Finley O’Brien won gold.

Kloe Fischer won the 13-14 50 butterfly and Jake Christensen took first in the 9-10 50 breaststroke.

Cam Carl took gold in the 13-14 50 breaststroke.

Two additional relay teams won events.

The 8&u free relay quartet of O’Brien, Peitz, Haselhorst and O’Brien won gold as did the 9-10 free relay squad of Becker, Emerson O’Brien, Paizleigh Eickhoff and Christensen .

The Dolphins will host their own meet July 2 here in Hartington.
