Highway 20 repair work delays traffic

RANDOLPH – An orange diamond-shaped sign labeled “Road Work Ahead” can be inferred as a sure sign of spring.

And it’s beginning to look a lot like springtime for the Randolph area.

Highway 20 motorists were met with a temporary stoplight near Cardinal Express last week as the highway has been reduced to one lane of traffic.

Constructors Inc., Lincoln, will be replacing several concrete panels that cracked after placement and repairing a guardrail that settled near Belden, said Rob Davis, Nebraska Department of Transportation District 3 construction engineer.

The disruption to normal traffic flow is anticipated to last six weeks.

“This is corrective work so all costs are being covered by the contractor,” Davis said.

The original project started in 2022, cost $16.3 million and caused road detours and delays for a large portion of the year.

The project included 10 miles of pavement removal and replacement of the roadbed, milling and resurfacing the roadway and new asphalt surfaced shoulders, concrete repairs, bridge repairs and replacement of the bridge over the Middle Logan Creek east of Randolph.
