LAUREL — Neal M. Stone, 86, Laurel, died Dec. 4, 2023, at Bryan Medical Center West Campus, Lincoln.

Private family services will be held by the family at a later date.

Burial of his cremated remains will be at the Laurel Cemetery, Laurel.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel.

Neal Marland was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Laurel, to Fred E. and Pearl Marie (Johnsen) Stone. He grew up on the family farm and continued to live and farm there for the rest of his life. Neal graduated from Laurel High School in 1954. He married Marlene Frances Remes Nov. 22, 1974, in Duluth, Minn. Neal became a resident of Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel, where he resided for nine months and had lived at the Knoll’s in Lincoln since April 2023.

Neal is survived by his wife, Marlene, Laurel; his four children and their spouses, Patty (KJ) Vavra, Traynor, Iowa; Mark (Asa) Stone, Lincoln; Penny (Bart) Johnston, Lincoln; Mike (Trista) Stone, Laurel; six grandchildren, Mitchell, Walker, Lily, Avery, Foster and Archer; three siblings, Burnell (Sandie) Stone, Coleridge; Nancy (Vince) Magneson, Duluth, Minn.; Denny (Janelle) Stone, Sun City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Pearl Stone; daughter, Bonna Del (Leo) Kastrup; infant sister, Nadene Stone.
