Jada Cattau reaches milestone
PIERCE — One Lady Trojan made history last Tuesday in the semifinal round of the MidStates Conference Volleyball Tournament.
Jada Cattau earned her 1,000th kill during the match. It was her second milestone of this season, earning 1,000 digs early in the year.
Cattau earned it on the final point of the second set to help her team take a two set lead in the match. Cattau says she is happy it came at a crucial time in the match.
“Deep down I was kind of wanting it to be at the end or more significant than just a tip or anything. I wanted it to be a full fledged kill, so that made it better, and the help of my setters and teammates made it mean even more.”
To congratulate her on the award, Cattau was presented with a celebratory volleyball by her head coach Denae Buss. The ball had a picture of the senior printed on it and also mentioned the milestone achievement.
Cattau said the honorary volleyball surprised her more than eclipsing the 1,000 kills mark.
“I really had no words. I didn’t know that this was something you got when you got 1,000 kills. So when she handed me the ball it was just awesome and super special. I will keep that forever.”
A thousand kills has been a goal of Cattau’s since she made the varsity team as a freshman. The 1,000 digs, not as much. Cattau says that milestone surprised her. Her reaction to both is the same though, she is thankful.
“I am grateful to everyone that has helped me to be able to do this, especially to my teammates and my setters I wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
With a personal goal achieved, Cattau now has nothing left to focus on but the team goals the Lady Trojans have set for this year. These are no small goals after the team went 34-1, losing the final game of the season in last year’s Class C2 State Championship game against Superior.
“Definitely win Districts, make it to State, win State, and as a team we want to get two of the highest stats in our class which is serving and serve receive.”
Cedar started their postseason run on Monday in Wayne at SubDistricts.
