Playoffs on the line as Wynot hosts Allen Friday night
WYNOT - The Wynot Blue Devils football team hosts the Allen Eagles this Friday in the final
regular season game of the season.
For Wynot, this game is a must win to clinch a playoff spot. Currently sitting at 2-5, the Blue
Devils are 26th in Wildcard points.
For Allen, this game can clinch a first-round home game in the playoffs.
Clearly, this final regular season matchup comes with high stakes.
The game will be a showdown between the power running style of the Eagles and the balanced
offensive attack of the Blue Devils.
Allen is led in the backfield by senior Kyle Smith. The senior leads his team with 146 yards per
game on the ground and 176 total yards per game.
Wynot head coach Steve Wieseler knows success comes from containing him early and often.
“We need to control the line of scrimmage and not give him room to run. We match up well up
front, but they have a lot of speed on their line.”
Because of how important this game is to Wynot’s postseason hopes, Wieseler says this game
is being treated with the same level of intensity.
“Our mindset is this is a playoff game for us,” said Wieseler. “If we win we will keep playing. If
we lose we may not make the playoffs.”
Allen and Wynot are both in the same District, and against similar opponents, Allen is 2-2 while
Wynot is 1-3. Both teams defeated Wausa, and Allen defeated Hartington-Newcastle while
Wynot lost to the Wildcats at home. Both teams lost to Randolph and Bloomfield.
Playoff seeding is on the line, District bragging rights are on the line, and for 48-minutes on the
field, the postseason future for each of these teams will be decided. The game will be played in
Wynot on Friday night at 7 p.m.
