Anderson plans to retire after this school year

HARTINGTON — Hartington- Newcastle School Board members Monday accepted a letter of retirement from long-time music instructor Doyle Anderson.

The Board also received an update on the demolition of the house the district owns.

Anderson is a Hartington High School graduate. He has guided the high school vocal and band program at Hartington since 1990.

He plans to retire from the position as of June 1, 2019.

Also Monday, the Board got an update on plans to demolish the Ferd Spenner house, which the District now owns. The house is located to the east of the current vo-ag shop. If a new shop is built, it is expected to be built where the house now stands. Supt. A. J. Johnson said all the asbestos has been removed from the house. Current plans are to tear it down Oct. 26, when studentss are on Fall Break.
