Glen Milo Olson
WAYNE — Glen Milo Olson, 92, died Sept. 19, 2018, at Providence Medical Center, Wayne. A memorial service was held Sept. 22 at the United Presbyterian Church, Laurel. He had requested his body be donated to Sanford School of Medicine for research. Kober Funeral home, Vermillion, S.D., is in charge of arrangements. Glen, son of Elizabeth (Blatchford) and Oscar Olson, was born Aug. 22, 1926, at Hartington. He attended Sunny Lea School and due to his father’s failing health assisted with the farming. On June 6, 1948, he married Janet Domina of Randolph, and they continued farming until 1995 when he retired and moved to Laurel. Glen was active in church and community activities, being an active member and elder of United Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #248, a longtime volunteer at Hillcrest Care Center, and a member of Farm Bureau and Farmers Union. He served as secretary of the Hartington Farmers Union Coop for many years. He received numerous awards for his soil and water conservation efforts including the Omaha World Herald Master Farmer award, the Sioux City Journal Marc Cox award, and the Nebraska Good Earth Farmer award. Visitors from several foreign countries came to view several of his practices. Glen enjoyed sports and was always ready to share his woodworking and handyman skills. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Janet; daughter, Marsha (Kent) Prior, Lincoln; sons, Gaylund (Janis) Olson, Hebron, N.D.; Gordon (Latricia) Olson, Hartington; and Gary (Susan) Olson, Iowa City, Iowa. He treasured his 10 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alva (Martha) Olson, and Ralph (Marjorie) Olson; sister, Vivian (Elmer) Lindley; and granddaughter, Sherry Bruggeman.
