Cedar, HNS to open football season with Top 10 tests

HARTINGTON — Hartington’s two high school football teams will take their first big test of the season Friday.

Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle both begin the 2018 campaign rated among the Top 10 teams in the state in their respective divisions.

Cedar is rated fifth in both the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald Class C2 polls. The Trojans are rated eighth in the Huskerland Prep Report poll.

Hartington-Newcastle has garnered its first Top 10 preseason rating in at least 15 years, coming in at No. 10 in the initial Huskerland poll. The Wildcats are not rated by the Lincoln or Omaha papers. The Wildcats are noted as contenders by both polls, however.
