Several new faces greet students this week

HARTINGTON — Several new faces greeted local students when they returned to school this week for the start of the 2018-19 school year. Hartington-Newcastle Public School has three new teachers. Kyle Pardun, Lauren Mecseji and Lindsay Stappert have all joined the staff. At Cedar Catholic, Carol Manganaro, Frank Gade, Taylor Johnson, and Virgil Nelson have all joined the staff. Gina Hochstein will teach first grade at Holy Trinity this year as first grade teacher Rhonda Miller takes a one-year sabatical.

After teaching at Laurel-Concord- Coleridge High School for 35 years, math teacher Carol Manganaro will teach at Cedar Catholic this year, replacing long-time Cedar teacher MaryBeth Weier, who retired at the end of the last school year. For Manganaro, the only difference between working for LCC and Cedar Catholic will be that she actually has to start her car. Originally from Tilden, Manganaro attended Northeast Community College to play volleyball and finished her math degree at Wayne State College in 1979. She then received her master’s in math education from Wayne State in 1995. Manganaro started her teaching career at Hartington Public High School in 1979 where she also did her student teaching. She taught there for three years and then moved to Laurel where she has worked for the past 35 years
