Speed limit change may not take effect right away

HARTINGTON — A new Nebraska law raises the speed limit on many roads, but that doesn’t mean area motorists can automatically put the pedal to the metal.
The Hartington City Council recently received a letter from the State Dept. of Roads detailing the speed limit change.
The letter stated that even though the speed limit on many roads is slated to go up, motorists can only drive at that new speed when new signs have been posted.
In July, the Nebraska Department of Transportation started implementing changes from LB1009 - the bill that increases speeds on many Nebraska highways.
Department officials said it will take some time to get all the new signs up.
