Emogene Faye Andrews
Emogene Andrews MOORHEAD, Iowa—Emogene Faye Andrews, 82, Moorhead, Iowa, died Jan. 5, 2023, in Omaha, with family by her side.
A Celebration of Life Service was Jan. 12 at the Moorhead Christian Church, with Pastor Chuck Snow officiating.
A visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. A recording of the service was posted to the Goslar Funeral Home website with Emogene’s obituary.
A private family burial was at a later date in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead.
Honorary bearers were Nick Mantz, Jonah Obrecht and Lucas Obrecht.
Arrangements were under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Emogene Faye (Isom) Andrews was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Sholes, to Roley and Bessie (Silhacek) Isom. She attended Sholes school and graduated from Randolph High School in 1957. Throughout her school years, she played volleyball and basketball, and lettered in both. After graduating, she attended college at Wayne State College. Emogene graduated with a teaching degree in 1959. On a set-up date, she met Glen Andrews of Moorhead, Iowa. They married Nov. 4, 1961, and moved to Fort Huachuca, Ariz., where Glen was stationed as an army solider. While in Arizona, they were blessed with their first child, Jeff, in 1962. Once Glen was discharged from the army, they moved back to Moorhead, Iowa. Soon after, daughters, Julie and Cindy, were born in 1965 and 1967, respectively.
Emogene taught preschool at Head Start in Moorhead, Iowa. She also taught at Moorhead High School and Maple Valley, which included Castana, Mapleton and Danbury, for many years. She retired in 1998 from Maple Valley Community Schools.
Emogene was a member and deacon of the Moorhead Christian Church, member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, volunteer at Loess Hills Visitor Center Shop, and Cultural Center. Emogene was the treasurer for Loess Hills Visitor Center and Christian Women’s Fellowship group. She even volunteered at the library. She also served on the election board.
Emogene had many hobbies, hiking, gardening, quilting, reading, genealogy, crossword puzzles, sudoku, and road trips with Glen that had no itinerary in mind.
She is survived by son, Jeff (Suzy) Andrews, Sioux City, Iowa; daughters, Julie (Jeff DeLancey, partner) Andrews, Omaha, and Cindy (PJ) Obrecht, Naples, Fla.; grandsons, Nick Mantz, Jonah Obrecht and Lucas Obrecht; siblings, IIene (Leonard) Guinn; Lila (Charlie) Junck; and Karen Burns; sister-in-law, Rita Isom; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Andrews; parents, Roley and Bessie Isom; step father, Marvin Garrett; sister, Phyllis Burns; brother-in-law, Harold Burns; brother, Roley Isom; and brother-in-law, Wayne Burns.
Memorials in Emogene’s memory may be made to Moorhead Christian Church and Moorhead Fire and Rescue.
