Wynot boys pick up two more wins to remain perfect
WEST POINT — The Wynot Blue Devils keep rolling along in their basketball season as they picked up another win Friday to keep their undefeated record intact.
This time it was a hard-fought 59-43 win over West Point’s Guardian Angels Central Catholic Blue Jays. Wynot fell behind early, but rallied in the second and third quarters to earn the big win.
Wynot had balanced scoring as different players stepped up, each in one of final three quarters to lead the Blue Devils to victory. Dylan Heine and Carson Wieseler showed up in the first quarter and finished with 13 points. Heine had the hot hand in the second-quarter rally and finished with a game-high 20 points and Zack Foxhoven kept the rally going in the third quarter and finished with 12 points.
The Blue Jays did not have a player in double figures, but got balanced scoring led by Tanner Ehrisman with nine points. Jesse Steffen added eight points and Joe Schwer contributed seven points to West Point’s totals.
Wynot got six points each from Wieseler and Heine in the opening quarter. The Blue Jays got seven points from Steffen and four points from Ehrisman and balanced team help to build a 17-12 early lead.
Wynot rallied in the second quarter as Heine dumped in 10 points in the second quarter. Foxhoven, Wieseler and Andrew Haberman all drained 3-pointers for the Blue Devils as well. The resulting 21-6 run by Wynot gave it a 34-23 halftime lead.
Scoring slowed in the third quarter for both teams. The Blue Jays got four points from Myles Dinslage and a bucket plus-one by Ehrisman. Wynot got a basket each from Wieseler and Heine and a late 3-pointer by Foxhoven to push its lead to 45-31 entering the final period of play.
The final quarter saw the teams trading baskets. GACC had six people score, including a deep three from the corner by Diego Onate. Wynot kept pace as Haberman stepped up, hitting for five points, and field goals by Heine, Wieseler and Joseph Sudbeck helped the Blue Devils pull away to make the final tally a 59-43 win.

The Wynot Blue Devils remain the only team in the Class D2 rankings in Nebraska without a loss as they rolled over the Tri County Northeast Wolfpack by a score of 54-25 Thursday night in Allen. The game did not start as a blowout, as the Blue Devils were ice cold from the field and were without the services of two of their starters sidelined with ankle injuries.
Wynot was led by Zack Foxhoven’s 12 points, eight points from Dylan Heine and seven points each by Carson Wieseler and Joseph Sudbeck.
Tri County was paced by Hunter Heikes, who took scoring honors with his 13 points with Jackson Belt and Bernard Juarez each accounting for five points.
Tri County got eight points from their big center, Heikes, as he was a mismatch inside in the early going and the Wolfpack earned the 9-4 lead after one quarter.
The Blue Devils went back to man press and doubled Heikes as they shut down the Wolfpack’s offense in the second quarter. Wynot went on a big 20-4 run to take a 24-13 lead into the locker room at halftime. Foxhoven led the way for Wynot with nine points and Killian Steinhaus came off the bench to drain a 3-pointer.
Lockdown defense by Wynot shut down the Wolfpack offense in the third quarter as well. Heine drove the lane for six points, and Wieseler and Steinhaus each hit another trey as the Blue Devils widened their lead to 39-15 going into the final quarter.
Tri County tried to rally late with Heikes getting five more points and three points from Hudson Morgan. Wynot countered with five points each from Sudbeck and Benjamin Dodge, as they finished off the Wolfpack with a 15-10 run to make the final 54-25. Tri County’s record fell to 2-7 with the loss.
Wynot was at home Tuesday in a battle of top-ranked teams, as it took on Cedar Catholic.
