Expos drop heart-breaker

MITCHELL, S.D. — Wynot saw the Lennox Only One blast by in the top of the ninth inning to take a 7-4 lead over the Expos then held on to send Wynot home with a 7-4 loss.

The Expos led 4-3 heading into Lennox's half of the final frame, but back-to-back doubles by Lennox tied the game and a three-run blast by Corey Vasquez sealed the deal as Wynot went down in order on 11 pitches in its half of the frame.

“We really played pretty good,” Wynot manager Lee Heimes said. “They are just a good team and they took advantage of their opportunities when they (the opportunities) showed up.”

Jalen Wieseler started on the mound for Wynot and was cruising along, holding Lennox scoreless through four innings.

Meanwhile, the Expos posted two runs in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.

Peyton Wieseler opened the inning with a walk and and was eventually chased to third by a Devin Lammers double.

A ground out scored Wieseler and a single to center field by James Kaiser scored Lammers.

Lennox answered in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead on with the two of the three home runs in the contest. One a solo shot to open the inning and a two-run blast after a Only One batter walked.

Jackson Sudbeck came on to pitch for the Expos and quieted the Lennox bats until the final frame.

“We really had good pitching the entire game - good enough to win,” Heimes said. “We just needed to get a hit at the right time to blow the game open. It didn’t happen.

Wynot wasted an opportunity in the sixth as a couple of runners reached base on Lennox errors to open the inning then Kaiser singled to center to load the bases with nobody out.
