Vern D. Buschkamp
BLOOMFIELD — Vern D. Buschkamp, 80, Bloomfield, formerly of Crofton, died May 8, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society, Bloomfield. Interment of Vern’s cremated remains will be at a later date at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Wausa. Vern Daniel Buschkamp was born July 16, 1937, in Bloomfield, Nebraska to Mat and Elvera (Eliasson) Buschkamp. He grew up on a farm near Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Vern served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from Aug. 28, 1956-July 23, 1959. He was serving in occupied Japan when Russian submarines were seen in Tokyo Bay. Vern was a cryptographer and qualified as an expert (Carbine). He continued as a Reserve until 1962. Vern married Geraldine Kay Johnson Jan. 14, 1960, in Creighton. They made their home in Mission Hill, S.D., and then South Yankton, for a short time. Vern and Geri then moved to Crofton in the mid 1960s. He worked as an independent contract painter and enjoyed being able to set his own schedule. Vern had been a resident of the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Society since Dec. 5, 2013. Vern loved to play cards and shoot pool. He also loved trees and his feral cats. Vern is survived by his two children, son, Dan Buschkamp, Crofton; daughter, Deb and husband, Charles Buck, Lakewood, Colo.; a brother, John, and wife, Helen Buschkamp, Littleton, Colo. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geri Kay on April 19, 2017; his daughter Dee Ann; and his twin sister Edith O’Brien.
