Wynot wraps up baseball season with annual Old Timers' game

WYNOT - The Wynot Expos celebrated their 2018 summer season with the annual Old Timers’ Baseball Game on Saturday night.

The Expos played two exhibition games, one against the children, or Future Expos, and then one against the Legends team of former Expos players and family members of current players.

In the first game, the children showed the Expos who was boss with a monumental victory. No score was actually kept despite the scoreboard reading 25-2 in favor of the Future Expos. Each kid got at least one at-bat in each of the two innings, while the Expos were retired after three outs.

The children showed some blazing speed on the basepaths as the Expos could not seem to get their throws to beat the runners.

Each child came off the field with a smile on his or her face.

In the second game, things were taken a little bit more seriously, but not by much. The Legends team started the game with two solo home runs within the first three batters. 

The score was kept a little better in this game, and the Expos in this effort as well. Again the Expos would retire the side when there were three outs, but the Legends team had a little more leeway there.

What seemed to be the highlight for many of the fans came in the third inning when Jay Heimes took the mound against the Expos. 

Heimes showed he still had some special junk, striking out a handful of batters. Heimes played Single-A baseball for the Sioux Falls Canaries baseball team.

Behind the plate for Heimes was his father Alton Heimes. Alton caught two innings before being relieved by Duke Sudbeck. After the first inning, Alton had a large smile saying that was a pretty special moment. The last time Alton was the catcher for Jay was five years ago in the Old Timers’ Baseball Classic.
