Wynot girls roll to big win over Homer
WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils had little trouble defeating the Homer Lady Knights Tuesday as they built an early lead and stretched that lead into the second half to earn the 55-37 win over the visitors.
The two teams were even from 3-point land, with three each but Wynot had a big 18-10 advantage from inside the arc to control the game and earn their third win of the season against just one loss.
Autumn Lawson had a steady game and led the Lady Devils with 15 points.
Karley Heimes also hit double figures for Wynot, contributing 13 points to the win. Homer was paced by Jocelyn Hightree who had a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 10 points. Bradie Johnson helped out with eight points and Hannah Elsea chipped in with seven points for the Lady Knights.
Wynot’s defensive pressure bothered the Lady Knights in the opening quarter. The Lady Devils got four points each from Karley Heimes and Autumn Lawson as they built an 11-4 early lead.
Jocelyn Hightree and Hannan Elsea both hit a three and Bradie Johnson scored four points to try and rally Homer in the second quarter. Wynot got four more points from Autumn Lawson and a 3-pointer by Lauren Haberman as they clung to a 22-18 halftime advantage.
Edyn Sudbeck had the hot hand in the third quarter for Wynot, connecting for eight points, and Karley Heimes worked the offensive boards for four points.
Homer tried to hang on with five more points from Jocelyn Hightree and three points by Emily Rasmussen, but slipped farther behind, trailing 38-30 going into the final period.
In the final frame, the constant pressure by the Lady Devils slowed down the Lady Knights. Autumn Lawson dumped in another seven points and Lauren Haberman hit her second trey of the night, as Wynot finished off Homer with the 18-point win.
