Wynot cruises past Randolph
WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils evened their season record at 2-2 Friday with a lopsided 64-16 win over Randolph.
It was Homecoming for the Blue Devils and they did not disappoint their fans as they scored early and often, racing to a 29-0 first quarter advantage.
Wynot’s offense was led by Zack Foxhoven, with touchdown runs of 51 and 13 yards. Charlie Schroeder helped out with touchdown catches of 55 and 45 yards. Jack Kuchta had a 21-yard touchdown catch and Carson Wieseler had a 25-yarder. Colin Wieseler had a kickoff return for a score as well.
Randolph’s offense was fueled by Collyn Beal, who had both of the Cardinals’ rushing touchdowns, each on a seven-yard run
On defense, Wynot was led by Chase Schroeder with eight tackles and Tyler Nicke and Tate Guenther with seven tackles. Korbin Guenther also contributed six solo tackles to support his team. Jack Kuchta had an interception.
Randolph’s defense was led by Jacob Calder with eight tackles, Isaiah Salmon with seven tackles, and Aiden Gubbels with six.
It did not take long for the Blue Devils to get on the score board as Colin Wieseler hauled in the opening kickoff, found an opening on the left side and bolted 65 yards for a return touchdown. Chase Schroeder kicked the PAT and Wynot led 7-0 with less than a minute off the board.
Wynot got the ball right back when Colin Wieseler pounced on a Cardinal fumble. Jack Kuchta converted two plays later on a 21-yard catch and run for the Blue Devils’ second touchdown. Chase Schroeder ran in the extra point as the Wynot lead increased to 15-0.
The Cardinals went three-and-out as the Blue Devils’ offense was back on the field quickly. Wynot’s quick strike capabilities showed up again when Zack Foxhoven broke through the line, stiff armed a defender and galloped 51 yards to paydirt.
Wynot would get one more chance to score in the first quarter when Joseph Sudbeck picked off an errant Cardinal pass. Zack Foxhoven, two plays later, would sweep the right end for a 13-yard touchdown run. Dylan Heine hit Colin Wieseler for the conversion as the first quarter ended with Wynot leading 29-0.
After another three-and-out by the Cardinals to open the second quarter, the Devils’ Dylan Heine connected with his senior tight end Charlie Schroeder on a short pass in the left flat and Schroeder did the rest, as he broke a couple tackles on his way to a 55-yard TD romp. Schroeder also caught the conversion pass for a 37-0 Wynot advantage.
After a short kickoff by the Blue Devils, Randolph mounted a scoring drive of their own. Collyn Beal was the workhorse for the Cardinals’ offense.
First down runs of 10 and 9 yards helped Randolph push the ball up the field.
Beal would sweep the right end for the seven-yard touchdown run to cap the drive. Beal would also run in the two-point conversion to put the Cardinals on the scoreboard, but trailing 37-8.
Wynot’s offense would answer quickly when the Dylan Heine to Charlie Schroeder duo clicked again. This time it was on a 45- yard toss down the middle for another score. The PAT kick was good for a 44-8 lead for the home team.
Randolph’s Collyn Beal continued to run the ball hard as the Cards put together a drive fueled by Beal’s rushing. The Cardinal running back would be rewarded for his hard work as he picked up his second touchdown on the night on another seven-yard touchdown run. Carter Olson ran in the twopoint conversion to make the score 44-16.
The Cardinal defense had no answer for the Devils’ offense however.
Wynot marched down the field quickly again. Helped by first down catches by Colin Wieseler and Jack Kuchta, the Blue Devils crossed into Cardinal territory.
Heine would find Carson Wieseler behind the Cardinals’ defense for a 25-yard scoring strike. The PAT kick was good, making the score 51-16.
The third quarter moved quickly with the running clock. At the eight-minute mark Zack Foxhoven broke a 30-yard run deep into Cardinal territory. Dylan Heine dove in from the 3-yard line for the score. Chase Schroeder kicked the PAT to make the score 58-16.
In the fourth quarter, Joesph Sudbeck would add to the final score of the night on a 17-yard catch to make the final score 64-16
