Worker shortage forces DMV office to close
HARTINGTON — Labor shortages continue to impact the area with the latest being felt at the local DMV.
Two driver examiners had kept regular hours on Thursdays at the Cedar County Courthouse. But that office will not re-open until June 2 due to lack of workers, said Cedar County Treasurer Jean Wiebelhaus.
“They’ve been advertising for help just like everybody else and they’re not getting people to apply,” she said.
The local DMV offices in Center and Neligh also will be closed.
Dixon County’s Examiner’s Office will be open the first Thursday of each month. Motorists can also utilize the Wayne office on Wednesdays. Madison County’s office is open every day but they do not offer driving tests on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
Dakota City and O’Neill offices are also open but a bit further of a drive.
Wiebelhaus suggests calling ahead to make sure the office you are traveling to is not only open but offers the services you are seeking.
“We hope this isn’t a permanent thing and just a temporary thing for two months,” Wiebelhaus said.
