Weeping Water senior leads Class D1 in scoring this year
LINCOLN - There will be some big guns at this year’s State Tournament. Four athletes in the 2021 Class D1 State Tournament have hit for over 400 points this season.
The top scorer going into this year’s Class D1 State Tournament is Weeping Water’s Grace Cave.
The 5-9 senior standout is averaging 21.4 points per contest. She is also a big rebounder. Cave and Weeping Water teammate, Karlie Ridge, lead their team with 140 and 141 boards, respectively.
Cave was one of the top three shooters in last year’s state tourney, as well.
Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family’s Addison Schneider is the second biggest gun in this year’s Elite Eight. She hit for 449 points - an average of 19.5 points per game this season.
Cedar Catholic’s Brynn Wortmann is third on the State scoring list with 410 points on the year.
She was 10th on last year’s scoring list with 286 points during her junior campaign.
The final 400-pointer is Fremont Bergan’s Lauren Baker, who connected for 409 points, an average of 17 points a game for the Lady Knights.
Top-seeded Pleasanton has the most explosive scoring attack in this year’s field, averaging 61.6 points per game.
Pleasanton hit for 70 points or more four times this season.
They also have the most balanced attack as four of the team’s players made it into the Top 10 Scoring List this season.
Pleasanton is led by 5-8 senior Kaci Pierce, who hit for 322 points this season. Chelsea Fischer, Katelyn Lindner and Isabelle Paitz also all averaged in double figures this season for Pleasanton.
