Tourney title moves Lady Devils to 8-4
HARTINGTON — It took some time but the Wynot Lady Blue Devils pulled away in the second half in their matchup against the Bloomfield Lady Bees on Friday night and went on to capture the championship of the Classic Tournament.
A 28-13 scoring advantage in the second half sealed the win for the Lady Blue Devils.
Wynot was led by Autumn Lawson who hit a pair of threes and went 4-6 from the line to score 12 points. Karley Heimes worked the inside for 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds, as well.
Bloomfield’s Alexandra Eisenhauer led all scorers with 13 points and Kate Bruns just missed double figures contributing nine points to Queen Bees’ cause.
In the opening quarter Alexandra Eisenhauer had all 11 of the Queen Bees points. Wynot stayed with them thanks to five points from Edyn Sudbeck and buckets by Kayla Pinkelman and Karley Heimes as the score was knotted at 11-11 after one.
In the second period Wynot got another trey by Edyn Sudbeck and a conventional basket by Kayla Pinkelman. Bloomfield got all six of their points from Kate Bruns as Wynot led by a slim 19-17 halftime margin.
Wynot would expand their lead in the third quarter fueled by a 3-pointer each from Autumn Lawson and Emersyn Sudbeck. Bloomfield hung around with three points from Kate Bruns and a basket by Brynn Bargman, but Wynot had a little breathing room leading 30-22.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Lady Blue Devils. Another five points by Autumn Lawson and baskets by Krystal Sudbeck and Kendra Pinkelman sparked a 17-7 run. The Queen Bees got baskets by Ella McFarland, Brynn Bargman and Eisenhauer but it was not enough as Wynot earned the 17-point win and the 2021 Classic Tournament first-place trophy.
