NORFOLK – Funeral service for Thomas R. “Tom” Neuhalfen, 57, Norfolk will be held at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 7, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Norfolk. The Revs. Pat McLaughlin and David Korth will be officiating. Interment will be held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Madison. Casket bearers will be Austin Neuhalfen, Ryan Miller, T.D. Hartner, Garret Hartner, David Kassmeier and Jared Meikle.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Oct. 6, also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, following the visitation.

Tom died Sept. 26, 2023 at the UNMC Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha. Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk, is in charge of the arrangements.

Tom was born Oct. 1, 1965, in Yankton, S.D., to Vernon and Phyllis (McCoy) Neuhalfen. He attended Holy Trinity School, Hartington, graduating from Hartington Cedar Catholic High School in 1984, and from Northeast Community College in utility line in 1986. Later, he graduated from Culinary Institute. Mitchell, S.D., in 1989. Tom married Becky Jansen April 12, 1997, at the First United Methodist Church, Norfolk. Tom owned and operated The Brass Lantern Restaurant, Norfolk, until 2006. He currently was a district sales consultant at Cash-Wa Distributing for the past 16 years. Tom was just awarded Sales Consultant of the Month in September.

Tom loved spending time with his family and going to the girls’ events, watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Huskers. Tom enjoyed working outside on his lawn and his flowers, and sitting on the deck with a beer, enjoying time with family and friends.

Tom was a member of Sacred Heart Parish/St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Norfolk, and the Knights of Columbus.

Tom is survived by his spouse, Becky Neuhalfen, Norfolk; daughters, Emma Neuhalfen, Omaha; Anna Neuhalfen, Lincoln; siblings, Jan (Mike) Miller, Jewel, Iowa; Dr. Elizabeth “Beth” Neuhalfen, Eatonville, Wash.; Bob (Maggie) Neuhalfen, Ogallala; Don (Kim) Neuhalfen, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Jeff (Cathy) Neuhalfen, Lavonia, Mich.; Ken Neuhalfen and special friend, Danita Owens, Laurel; Phil Neuhalfen and special friend, Suzette Goodwater, Sparks, Nev,; Mary (Rod) Colfack, Norfolk; Paulette Neuhalfen, Des Moines, Iowa; and John (Jolene) Neuhalfen, Kieler, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Julie Neuhalfen, Glenwood, Iowa, and Sharon Neuhalfen, Arlington; in-laws, Bob (Margaret) Jansen, Leigh; Gary Jansen, Coleridge; Pat (Leroy) vonGlan, Norfolk; Jean (Warren) Blank, Madison; and Joyce Leinenweaver, Norfolk.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Phyllis; brothers, Michael, Charles and Pat; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marvin and Bertha Jansen; and brother-in-law, Jim Jansen.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the family for a later designation.
