State-rated Ponca hands Lady Devils another setback
PONCA - The Wynot Lady Blue Devils travelled to Ponca to take on the highly rated Lady Indians Friday and were soundly defeated 51-29.
The Indians held the Blue Devils offense to single digit scoring in every quarter, and out shot them 19-11 from the field to earn the easy win.
Ponca was led by Samantha Ehlers with a game-high 18 points. Gracen Evens also hit double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Wynot was led by Amber Lawson with 10 points and eight boards.
Ponca went on a 13-8 first-quarter run to take an early lead. Ellie McAfee and Alix Hughes each drained a three-pointer and Samantha Ehlers hit for five points to lead the Lady Indians’ attack. Wynot got five points from Amber Lawson and a offensive putback by Kayla Pinkelman.
It was more of same in the second quarter except the Lady Devils went cold from the field. Four more points each by Gracen Evans and Samantha Ehlers pushed the Lady Indians lead to 23-12 at halftime.
In the third quarter Wynot got a three-pointer by Allison Wieseler and a basket each by Kinslee Heimes and Lauren Haberman but the Lady Devils could not gain any ground. It was because Ponca got a nine-point scoring burst by Samantha Ehlers and six more points from Gracen Evans to increase their lead to 38-19 with one period left.
Amber Lawson, Kayla Pinkelman, Kenna Oligmueller and Myra Sudbeck all hit from the field for the Lady Blue Devils in the final quarter.
However, Ponca stayed hot and got four points by Julian Buckles, a three-pointer by Abbie Hrouda and conventional baskets by Lily Korth, Ashlyn Kingsbury and Ella McAfee as the Lady Indians pulled away for the big 51-28 win.
