Special meeting on sales tax proposal is set for Monday
HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council will discuss a proposed increase in the city sales tax at a special 7 p.m. meeting Monday, Aug. 31. at City Hall.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council is expected to vote to place on the Nov. 3 ballot the question to approve a local option municipal sales tax of one and a half percent.
The election will renew the sales tax initially put in place in 2007 and increase that sales tax by one-half percent.
Voters will also be asked to approve the Hartington Economic Development Plan using 35 percent of the non-motor-vehicle portion of the one and a half percent sales tax.
Those funds have been used for various projects over the years, including infrastructure improvements, business retention, development of the Westfield Acres housing development and of the Hartington Industrial Park.
