Special events are being planned for Memorial Day
LAUREL — As usual, area residents are planning some special events here for Memorial Day.
However, Memorial Day services will be held this year at a different location because of the construction at the school.
This year’s celebration will be held at the Laurel Community Center on Monday, May 29, at 10 a.m.
The speaker for this year’s program is Jim Clark.
Music will be provided by the Marian Mallatt Singers under the direction of Claudia J.M. Dvorak.
Immediately following the service, a short program will be held at the cemetery.
The American Legion Post No. 54 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4504 are hosting a Memorial Day Dinner at the Laurel Vet’s Club from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Memorial Day services are also planned in Coleridge.
On Thursday, May 25, Legion and Auxiliary members will meet at the Community Building at 5:30 p.m. to put up the Avenue of Flags. Volunteers are appreciated for this task.
This will be followed by the placement of flags and poppy crosses at the local cemeteries.
On Monday, May 29 the Memorial Day service will be held at the Memorial Plaza at 11 a.m.
The Memorial Day dinner will be held at the Coleridge Community Building starting at 11:30 a.m.
The meal will feature ham and roast beef, with desserts provided by the American Legion Auxiliary.
Volunteers will again be needed at 4 p.m. that day to take down the Avenue of Flags and collect the poppy crosses and flags at the cemeteries.
