Sheriff’s office assists in search for wanted man
NORFOLK – The Nebraska State Patrol lead a search in Cedar County last week for a man wanted on a national warrant.
The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office joined the search June 19 after Jason Sitzman, 47, Yankton, S.D., fled from South Dakota law enforcement and traveled into Cedar County.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a motorcycle driven by Sitzman, traveling southbound toward Nebraska. The trooper discontinued the pursuit at the state border.
Hours later, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) learned Sitzman may be located at the Chalkrock Wildlife Management Area in northern Cedar county. The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska Game and Parks, and Cedar County Emergency Management responded and assisted in the search.
Troopers found the motorcycle but they did not locate Sitzman. Helicopters, drones and K-9 units were used in the search.
The next day, NSP told its law enforcement partners there was no indication Sitzman was still in the area.
