Schommer returns to State golf meet
WAYNE — Maci Schommer qualified for the State golf tournament with an eighthplace finish in the District meet last week.
Cedar Catholic’s golf team entered the C-3 District golf tournament at Wayne Country Club with high expectations for the entire team qualifying for this week’s Class C State Championships at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte.
Unfortunately, the Lady Trojans placed seventh in the team scoring and only the top three teams moved on to the State tournament.
Schommer, a Cedar Catholic senior, did qualify as one of the top 10 individuals in the District.
The Lady Trojans had a team total of 454 in the District, which was won by Wayne with a 390. West Holt earned second place with a 395 and O’Neill grabbed the last team slot with a 408.
Schommer carded a 97 in the 18hole event. It was her third time qualifying for the State tournament and her first time to get to Lake Maloney. She was just two shots out of the top five.
Joslyn Johnson of Wayne and Kaylin Gaughenbaugh of O’Neill tied for medalist honors, with Johnson winning a playoff on the second hole after both fired an 85.
Kristine Becker shot a 112 to place 25th for the Lady Trojans, Olivia Kleinschmit was next at 28th with a 116, Tessa Haahr was 40th after shooting a 129 and Katherine Lammers was 42nd with a 132.
The Nebraska Class C State Championships were slated for Oct. 9-10 at Lake Maloney.
