Rosener wraps up successful WSC cross country career
WAYNE — Consider the first half of the final chapter in Allie Rosener’s collegiate athletic career a success.
The senior at Wayne State College saw her cross country career end earlier this month at the Central Regional as she was unable to advance to the NCAA Division II national meet.
She will now prepare for the indoor/ outdoor track and field seasons set to start within the next month.
She was her team’s number one runner for all the meets this year.
“We didn’t have our season last year, so it was weird to have one whole year. It was different to have a whole year off. It was about ‘I may not ever run this course again,’ so I had to go out and give it my all.
COVID-19 has changed many things for many people, she said.
“I see (the pandemic) in two ways. You could take the time off to train – I had an ankle injury, so I had surgery because I knew I wasn’t going to be competing. I was competing in track, so I used it for that. Not having a season was motivation since this was my last season.”
Rosener was named academic allconference – in Spanish and Psychology - for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and her best run this year was a 19:19 which was a career best for the former Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcat.
“I trained a lot more in the summer than in years prior,” Rosener said. “I came off a decent track season and wanted to use that to succeed in cross country.
“I focused on my rest, recovery and nutrition. Instead of using days completely off, I would do days of cross training. I had a few injuries this season, so I had to power through that and had to do elliptical and the bike and things like that to stay in shape. I knew this was my last season.”
Rosener is pleased she improved throughout her cross country career.
“It would have been a bummer if I didn’t run my best times, but I ran a PR at every meet,” she said. “It made me feel good about my last season.
Rosener took advantage of the last chance to run on the course and will now get ready for the track season
In the indoor season, she hopes to run the mile, the 3K and maybe the 800-meter a few times.
In outdoor track, she will run the 1,500 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
“I am hoping for a good year,” Rosener said.
